04: Be careful what you ask for

18) And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. 19) Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; 20) But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

Numbers 11:18-20, KJV

Here is the lesson folks: Be careful what you ask for…because you just might get it. Ask the children of Israel in Numbers 11. They grew bored and weary of the manna God was supplying them on their journey. Their malcontented and ungrateful spirit moved them to gripe and complain and murmur and mumble. Do not be fooled. God hates an unthankful people; but that’s another blog for another time. Lol.

God wants to give us good things. God wants to bless us. God wants to provide everything we need, maybe not always everything we want, but definitely everything we need. Sometimes God doesn’t give us everything we ask because it might not be the best thing for us or for our journey. I think sometimes God holds certain blessings back because we might not be ready for whatever it is. If we turn bitter or ungrateful or start to complain and grumble we just might irk God enough to let us have what we want along with the consequences and baggage.

So the next time you are murmuring to yourself, or griping out loud, remember there might just be a good reason that God is not giving you something you might really, really want. The children of Israel in Numbers 11 really, really wanted what they had in bondage in Egypt. So much so they no longer valued or were grateful for what God was doing for them every single day. Be careful folks of what you ask for, and then get bitter over, because you just might get it!
