This story is telling: Two men are in a truck sitting at an intersection. The driver looks out his window and sees he’s clear to turn. While keeping his eye on the road he asks the passenger, “Is it all clear?” The passenger replies, “Nothing but a dog here.” The driver pulls out and then, “Wham!” They are immediately struck and the truck is rolled over.
The two men wake up in the same hospital room a little while later. The driver turns to his friend and incredulously asks, “I thought you said there was only a dog?” The passenger replies, “Greyhound!”
Say what you mean and mean what you say. Language matters. Words matter. God help us all to be clear and concise in the things we say to the people we care about.
